“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” – Jesus (Matthew 5:8)

Purity isn’t the kind of word that gets much play in our day. Many believe that ultimate fulfillment is found by indulging in whatever our hearts desire. But God tells us that true fulfillment and true joy are only found in Him and His ways. One of the main ways we are tempted to trade God in for fleeting pleasures is in the area of sexual sin. Pornography is becoming as commonplace as the evening news. God’s gift of marriage is mocked and His call to wait for marriage before any sexual activity seems ludicrous to most.

But, as many of us know, the scars of sexual sin run deep. Sin has poured us a bowl full of lies, and many of us have drunk it down with much regret. But there is hope for God’s people in a perverse day. God has designed sex as a beautiful gift that is to be protected and preserved for the ways He created. And He has promised that through purity, we will see Him more clearly and enjoy more deeply His incomparable joy.

On Friday, April 4th, 2014 Del Ray Baptist Church hosted an evening event that was intended to lead our hearts toward the freedom and blessedness that Jesus promised comes from a pure heart. In the recording posted above, Pastor Garrett Kell leads a candid discussion of how men and women of God can fight sexual sin and pursue the purity of God’s perfect ways.

During the talk, Garrett answers questions like the following:

How do God’s promises help us fight against sexual temptation?
What are Satan’s strategies to tempt us away from sexual purity?
How does God’s Spirit empower us to overcome temptation?
How do other Christians help us keep warring against sin?
What should we do if we give into sexual sin?

Due to the sensitive nature of the topic, we do encourage parents to use discretion. We seek to be honorable in the way we discuss these issues, but we also strive to speak candidly.
